Liam Wood – Surf Coach | Athlete | Leader
Liam Wood has been riding waves since the age of 12, traveling the world and competing at some of the planet’s most iconic surf destinations. He has surfed in elite-level competitions, including prestigious events on the WQS and European Surf Tours.
With over 20 years of coaching experience, Liam has helped shape the careers of some of South Africa’s top surf athletes. He has coached the South African National Surf Team, managed athletes competing on the WQS and WSL World Tours, and collaborated with some of the world’s most respected surfers, coaches, team managers, and sports psychologists.
He holds the highest surf coaching qualifications in the country, including SSA Level 1 & 2 and ISA Level 1 & 2 badges.
In addition to his South African accolades, Liam has also captained the British & Irish Surf Team, represented Western Province, and claimed victories in both major and local surf competitions. His professional background includes sports and team marketing for one of the world’s leading surf brands.
Currently, Liam serves as the President of Western Province Surfing, Head Coach of the Western Province Team, and a coach for national-level surfers. He also runs multiple successful surf businesses in South Africa.
A passionate ocean lover, Liam brings a wealth of knowledge as a hands-on coach and team manager for elite extreme sports athletes. His experience has fueled a lifelong commitment to helping surfers of all levels unlock their full potential.
After stepping away from a successful career in design, marketing, and sports management, Liam—alongside his team of expert instructors—is dedicated to sharing their love of the ocean and the art of surfing with the world.
